For the electrical engineers (and those more electrically inclined), a couple of questions.
1) It looks like most of the people here encounter this problem approximately a year or so after installing the DEPO lights. Why did the lights work properly for a year before failing?
2) Why does this DIY fix use two 6ohm resisters in serial instead of one 12ohm resistor by itself?
Thanks!
Pin 1 to 2 (brake light): 0.6 Ohms
Pin 3 to 2 (reverse light): 0.6 Ohms
Pin 5 to 2 (fog light): 0.6 Ohms
Pin 4 to 2 (turn signal): 0.6 Ohms
Pin 6 to 2 (tail lights): 1.0 Ohms
This measurements are totally incorrect, sorry. This are the values in cold conditions. You should measure the current during operation!
Serial : 6ohm + 6ohm = 12ohm
Parallel would be : 6ohm / 6ohm = 3ohm - This will burn up the gateway...
Calculations for the correct resistor:
Normal battery and 10 ohm!
14.4 Volt / 10 ohm = 1.44 Amp --> 14.4 Volt * 1.44 Amp ~ 20,7 Watt
On weak battery and 12 ohm...
12.5 Volt / 12 ohm = 1.04 Amp --> 12.5 Volt * 1.04 Amp ~ 13.02 Watt
Well, my dashboard now has a 'check rear tail light' warning!
It came up this morning and coupled with it my number plate lamps occassionally do not illuminate.
Any help appreciated.
I was having the same problem. "Left Tail Light Out". I had the Depo lights for over a year with no prior issues. I just installed "The Fix" on the left tail light. Everything is working great now.
I do have one question. The resistors do get very hot. Any concerns with melting the wires? Has anyone who has done this checked to see if there are any issues with the heat?

I was concerned with the heat as well, but everything's been holding up fine for several months now. I did double-tape the resistors to the metal body, to help dissipate the heat a bit, but I can't tell if it helped or not. There is a lot of heat coming from the engine compartment too.
just got a brand new set of Depo light. Each light comes with 2 resisters sealed in a black box attached to light housing. Seller claimed this is a newly improved version. But I don't know if this is same as older one.
I have installed it and they seem fine. But I have not driven the car yet.......
Hey guy's I'm selling mine (Dectane) as I'm upgrading the entire bumper to a 997.2
Haven't posted in the salesection, but will shortly.
They are clear with a slight smoke, all LED's work, in excellent condition, and most importantly they don't throw any errors.
Let me know if you are interested - $500 Canadian + shipping (shipped from Vancouver)
PM me if you are interested and want to get a head start.
i am fairly sure that smoke lens are not DOT approved and thus i think will void your insurance warranty. At least i think that is how it works. If instance, if someone rear ended you, It can be said that you had aftermarket non- DOT approved lights and thus contributed to the accident.
