Just adding my experience here, I've had my VAP tune for about 2 months, HUGE improvement in throttle response and very noticeable power increase. Definitely recommend to everyone!

 

Can anyone comment on how the tune did on a 4.3 vantage with the AMR power upgrade?

 

The 4.3L AMR power upgrade, is just filter boxes with bypass valves added and an intake manifold painted black (+addition of 1 vacuum port for air filter boxes)..it doesn't do much for "performance".

That entire upgrade would be the same as cutting holes in your intake boxes. The engine software has minor differences; there's the addition of the mapping to operate the air filter box bypass valves and the AFR is tweaked to run a leaner mix (at 7k, stock = 10.58:1 vs AMR 11.32:1). As for any additional edits in the AMR software to increase performance over the base model 4.3, the AMR software matches everything else...including baseline spark. However there's a bump in the MBT spark to help enable that extra 20bhp as advertised (providing the pump fuel can achieve the results)

With the above said; The reaction is the same for any 4.3L owner, regardless of the base tune or even when fitted with the AMR goodies.

 

I saw a new never installed tuner for sale in the marketplace on this forum. Is there a way to know what tune is on it and can you choose any parameters on the tuner? For instance, can I select that I have a manual transmission car with twin plate clutch, exhaust, 200 cell cats? And then later if adding headers, change the tune via the tuner or do I need to get a new file?

 

The "tune" if already created, is not transferable..only the device can be unlocked and sold (device costs are in range of 250USD)

If the tuning device was never used and client never requested a file to be made (but it was paid in full), then yes a file could be made for your vehicle to adapt all your mods at time of file submission. However, the client would need to supply you with the VAP order number, so you can claim the tune for that device.
