Biggest rubber on std 19”
Biggest rubber on std 19”
Please can someone advise me on the biggest tire I can fit on the OEM 19 inch rear rim? Currently I’m running 285 and I would like to go a bit wider if possible without compromising safe handling
It would help if you said what car you have and which rims you're on. Physical tire sizes are also different from brand to brand. So e.g. 295 might be fine from one brand but not from another.
Sorry my bad I have the OEM 19 inch wheels as per my pic
i suspect you're looking for something definitive... in that spirit all i can tell you for certain is that pirelli zero all-season 245/40r19 fronts and 285/35r19 rears (inflated to 32lbs PSI) do not make contact with wheel wells or fenders of my 2007 19" wheeled vantage. other than that i won't even speculate. however i will say that a socially awkward acquaintance of mine, out of the blue, said they looked like they were wider than the fenders and wondered if they rubbed.

the 285 and the spacer bring the rubber to just in line with rear fender and by doing this make the car look lower if I go 295 I was hoping to get a more masculine look, the tire supplier is concerned the rubber could be to wide for the rim and then the side wall won’t seat correctly ad the problem that the tire needs to be ordered and not normally a stock item they don’t want to order and try they want to order and sell and I don’t want to order unless I know it will fit …
so success depends on if a 295 can be mounted safely on a standard vantage rear wheel, and if it won't rub on the rear fender, and if you can sweet talk the tire guy into ordering a 295 so you can "see if it works". ...that's a lot of "ifs".
there are any number of tire/wheel calculators on the net. so given the tire's width and height and the rim's diameter and width, it shouldn't be too difficult to answer the rim/tire compatibility and safety concerns.

usually the tire company will list the width of the rim needed for their tires, usually 285 is the widest that you should go on 9.5 inch rims which are the standard rim for a Vantage V8, check the Michelin site here
