Cool thread.

Ari... I think SCM3 would have beat you...especially from a roll. I think it could be pretty close from a dig. Its too bad his car is being built right now. There are some pretty cool videos floating around of his car in its previous state.

Im assuming the M3's can handle extremely well when set up right. Didn't the M3's with the S62's get banned in a race circuit because the Porsche's couldn't keep up.

Also here is a race 996 GT3 vs a Race prepped M3 GTR ring times. I know this doesn't have much to do with anything.. but its the 996,E46 handling comparo. Two best of the best cars and here is the outcome.

race cars:
7:00* -- 176.250 km/h – BMW M3 GTR, 450 PS/1100 kg (sport auto 06/04), *estimated
7:01 --- 176.152 km/h -- Manthey Porsche GT3 race car, 493 PS (AutoBild 06/04), http://www.manthey-motors.de/nextsho...pdf.asp?id=217
7:10 --- 173.100 km/h -- BMW M3 GTR, 450 PS/1350 kg, Joerg Mueller (practice 24hrs race 03)
7:12.25 173.500 km/h -- Schnitzer BMW M3 GTR, Dirk Mueller, 24hrs race practice (02)
7:20* -- 168.545 km/h -- Opel Astra DTM V8 Coupe, 500hp, set-up for 24hrs race (sport auto 03) *estimated
7:21 --- 168.163 km/h -- Blitz Supra, 650 PS (Autocar magazine 97)
7:25 --- 168.651 km/h -- Alzen Motorsport Porsche 996, 24hrs race, Uwe Alzen
7:36 --- 162.631 km/h -- AC-Schnitzer M3 CLS II E36, 350 hp, Michelin Sport Cup R , Mattias Ekblom
7:40 --- 161.217 km/h -- Porsche GT3 RS, stock but Pirelli P Zero Corsa, Mattias Ekblom (ams)

Ultimatly... I don't care. I owned both cars.. and both are sick. Its about time there are some cool HP figures starting to be available for the M3.

I use to think this way years ago; trying to compare a modified car I have to the likes of Porsche. Why? Because at the time I couldn't afford nor had a driven a P-car, so it was easy to write it off out of sheer ignorance, and that is exactly what is happening in this thread.
I have a Turbo E36 M3 that will make 565 rwhp on moderate boost on 92 octane Getty gas any day of the week. It is very fast and in a totally different league than the supercharged M3s. I've went the extra mile on nearly everyting on the car, from a fully built engine to high capacity fuel system to things I've agreed not to reveal to other people. By simply adding a larger turbo, more fuel and a tune I could have 1000+rwhp if I wanted to. Why haven't I? Because it is silly and unreliable. My car has "a smaller turbo", a GT35R so it can be detuned enough to be somewhat reliable. The car was never engineered for that type of power and no amount of modifications will ever make it able to handle it. The only thing it proves is I am the idiot that dropped an absurd amount of money to make an economical sports car faster than it should be. Believe me, not a day goes by where I don't wonder what I was thinking spending over $100,000 in modifications on a $40k ///M econobox. 600 whp on a stock M3 engine? Well I'm sure it put this down on the dyno, let's see how long it lasts, haha. I'd be afraid of what components are used in a kit that only costs $16k and delivers that much power for car that was not turbocharged to begin with.
I keep my M3 around for some humility in my life and I'll likely never part with it for that reason. Suffice to say, as fast as it is, I'd easily take a stock 911 Turbo over it.

11.9 is pretty impressive I guess. It is what a stock 996 TT X50 does.
I agree to a certain extent, but you can have a reliable modded car. The E36 is a great car but outdated compared to a 996tt. The E46 M3 is much more comparable. Ive had the choice of driving a 500-600rwhp M3 or a stage 2 996tt everyday and i always picked the M3. But again all about personal preference.

Again, i hate showing my times b/c most guys dont understand tracks vs. tracks times can very plenty. 11.9 @ LACR is pretty good, especially with the 1.9 60 foot i had, 123 trap is even better. The guys who run that track know what im talking about.

I am enjoying this thread....thinking about my M3 and going what if....I added NOS on top of your equation and put her on a 600lb diet? The again, I like her just the way she is...

BTW. Very impressive times on your M3 at LACR...
Thanks VR. Just get the turbo kit from HPF and get on a diet. Then add some nitrous,C16 and you can break 700rwhp stock. Ofcourse if you want to build that engine you can make some insane power as well.

Sport Chrono pkg? Just guessing....
Correct.

Too bad the M3 time is estimated which on a course that long doesnt mean all that much considering they are only a second apart.

SCM3 you came in here beating your chest like someone would be intimidated by the Twin Turboed M3, take a second and think, if somone posted this same thread topic except about a TT in the M3 board, would they not have gotten the same treatment if not worse. You obviously didnt think too much before you started spewing at the mouth, but to accuse everyone else of being favorable towards porsches on a porsche site is .....well.... maybe you can at least figure that out.

Actually... If the Porsche guy ....say... VR came in there and threw out his chest.... all the M3 guys would be like...... "you are right... we could not beat you......our M3's suck.......I want a Porsche someday!!!"

Thats no joke either.

Too funny! I was actually just reading this whole 500 page thread when I decided to take a break and look at old magazine I had laying on the desk here - Modified Luxury & Exotics, October 2006. I had the issue laying here becuase I have been reading about Vinces 1400HP Viper since I am considering buying a 1600HP Viper of my own... I happen to flip a few pages back and I see your car - Good looking M3!

Not getting involed in this thread, but just wanted to say I just saw your car and it looks sick!!! Alot better than any other M3 I have ever seen!

Ok - Now back to the action!

Josh summed it up best: Comparing an M3, even heavily modded to a heavily modded TT, or worse yet a GT2 just makes my head want to explode.

You should not be surprised that so many have challenged to race you, especially on a track where, even if you are a great driver you would be embarrased. They challenge you because they knaow what they have. I have driven an M3, my friend has one. It is a better car than my G35 and my Mustang. But the GT2 is about 4 levels above the M3. You have absolutely no idea of what a modded GT2 is like. There is a reason why they call it the "Widowmaker."

Let me make an analogy. Most people know that I have trained (I am old and retired now) with quite a few professional MMA fighters. Once in a while I wiil go on to the MMA.tv site and invariably there will be some fool who thinks that because he has won a few street fights that he would whoop someone who fought in the UFC (usually someone who just lost to a better fighter). They simple do not understand that these guys, even guys w/ mediocre professional records are complete animals (usualy the guys who even get into pro MMA fighting were former champions in a more traditional fighting style like kickboxing, wrestling or Jui-jitsu).

Nonetheles they run their mouth, maybe even agree to a challange, but never show up. Same thing here.

Night night

That only applies to Twin Turbo 350z owners that talk s#*t about 6speed members...

BTW. I would NEVER disrespect another car owner (unless they deserved it)...especially not a M3...love that car and also own one...

I don't know.... Here are a couple production times on the ring. The M3 time is the CSL....but ultimatley its just a lighter version of the M3. Its nipping at the heels of the GT2. With a little suspension modding..and maybe a little more power....................

Im not trying to add fuel to the fire... but Im just showing that a measley M3 on just a diet can run with the GT2.
