No need to order Compass Display just for looks...
OK just came back from the dealer. They had a new 2012 Cayenne Hybrid in the showroom and it had the center clock (as pictured earlier in the thread). FWIW, it looks very nice. I also turned the car on and there is a permanent clock in the lower right hand corner of the main PCM display (in place of the temperature reading in the 2011 and early 2012 models). I did not play with the PCM enough to find out if this was a configurable item in PCM. The system version on this car was 2.42.
The service manager at this dealership did some research and indicated to me that I could not retrofit the chrono clock into the place where my compass is today. Additionally, my system version is 2.40 (this may or may not be specific to the hybrid models). The service manager did not know how to upgrade my system version to the newer one.
As such, it would be appear that at least for now, I am stuck with my crappy clock situation.

i have my dealer looking into what it would take to get a compass and swap it as well. in the meantime, i did put the compass and elevation data on the vehicle display in the cluster screen.
ok - i'm willing to pay for a pcm upgrade, but i still don't know how to get it. does porsche even offer it? As an example, I have virtually the same pcm unit between my 2011 cayenne and my 2012 911 (although I believe that the cayenne pcm is 3.1 and the 911 is 3.0). It does not make sense to me though that the Cayenne can stream music over bluetooth, but the 911 cannot (even though it is a newer model year!).
No luck on the wiring harness yet, I'm now trying to source that through some contacts in Porsche HQ.
ordered a 2012 V6, Sept build. Preliminary pics from the dealer today as the car arrived do not seem to show a dash clock (angle of pic causes part of dash to be obscured)!!!!!! Will confirm tomorrow!
A clock is installed on all Cayenne built after a certain date in Sep, 2011, looks like you just barely missed it! Oh well.
my mistake..i ordered in Sept 2011..my car build was in December 2011 and build completed Dec 23, 2011.
