I like the F430, but its certainly not the top of the line for Ferrari. I am sure some Enzo and 599 GTB drivers would beg to differ. And seriously not to be offensive but how does the way a car drive affect its resale value? How many of you have driven a Prius? That car has amazingly high resale and since that seems to be the main purchase decision than maybe Tommy should get rid of the LP640 and keep his LS460?

Everyone has an opinion, I feel outright speed or outright handling isn't the real reason to buy an exotic. Let's face it the ZR1 is the equal or better of even cars like the GT2 or the Scuderia. But it costs $100k because it doesn't have the brand cache, or emotional draw, or perceived value to compete with the exotics.

It's like the difference between the XJR and the Maserati QP. Other than a maybe at the best 10% better handling balance the XJR does everything the QP does. But it doesn't do the intangible things that create that infatuation for a car that the Maser does. The question is how does it make you feel? For me the Lambo has the drama and the slight bit of rawness I like. For others the Ferrari has that sensual and emotional appeal.

I love debates between different marques. It shows passion and knowledge about our cars we own. At the same being informative to others about cars that they have not experience. This is what make this place exciting for me. Sometime people forget that it's a car forum after all. I prefer reading about cars on here than just about anything else. Carry on gentlemen....

Btw there also" a shoot each other" thread that may you find goes well with this thread.

Interesting to read your thoughts on depressed values due to the obvious economic woes and that OC Lambo dumped all of their cars below wholesale... you realize that dumping 50 cars can spoil the market so to speak. I had never considered that. Imagine if honda of OC dumped 50 civics... preverbial pebble in the ocean.

Gallardos and F430s alike are getting pounded right now in the market... what isn't getting pounded?

pretty simple proposition for the OP -- drive them both and buy whichever one you like more. End of story... both are expensive, have the same effect for daily driving, etc...

Neither car is a practical daily driver and both attract huge attention wherever you go and you have to worry about where to park it, steep driveways, random "anti you rich *****" vandalism, etc... IMHO too much headache for daily transport.

Another issue IMHO is that the majority of America is HURTING right now. Do you really want to be sitting in traffic in your lime green lambo or fly yellow ferrari? I mean it is one thing to get together on a saturday morning and enjoy our hobby... but quite another to sit in traffic commuting in a car that costs more than most people's homes.
I agree with most of what you say however in the last paragraph, it goes both ways. I've also learned that no matter what, some are going to love it and some are going to hate it. I just got an e-mail from a guy who told me that seeing my car was what he needed to get re-energized that day as he was getting down on himself. It was nice to read.

As for the other stuff, you're right on the money. Yup, where to park it takes a little planning.

I love this post. I visited the factory and met the woman who handmade the headrest on my car, I got to see how my car was built and I loved everything about the experience. I've been able to fly to Italy to sit face to face with the CEO of Lamborghini and his senior team for hours as we talk about branding. John E and I got to see the upcoming SV in person and after all that I've got a huge love for the brand and the people behind it. I love cars, not just mine but so many out there that I'm like a kid when I go to events. I'd be disappointed if we didn't have a lot of different brands show up at RTC and I see the value in each one. It bothers me when someone tosses a bomb at one brand over the other because the very reason they sell new in the first place is because they stir something in us and we all love different things. So what?

I don't know Mark and I know he's got a lot of cars. I also know people who have huge collections, one in particular who is a serious driver, owns an Enzo in LA, among many others, loves his LP640 and his opinion was an influence on me for sure. He will go on and on about why he love his Lamborghini. It doesn't invalidate Mark's point of view either. My only experience with Mark so far is his criticism over RTC, which he's yet to attend, some of which is inaccurate ($400k floor), and general statements about Lamborghini that do have another point of view. I've invited him to drive my car and we'll see if he accepts. I don't expect to change his mind as he may be invested in his opinion, I don't know, but it would be fun anyway.

I have a love affair with the automobile to be honest. The alleged story behind Ferrucio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari is the stuff of legend. Ferrucio telling Enzo that he did not like the clutch on his car and the steering could be improved. Enzo telling him to stick to making tractors!

Something about Lambo's , I can't explain it. Friend of mine had a Monterrey Editon Diablo SV. Pure sex on wheels it makes me lose sleep thinking about the severity and brutality of it.

The Giotto Bizzarini designed V12 evolving over the years from its original 3.5 liter displacement. I could go on and on, I like Ferrari alot too. But the only car they make now other than the Scuderia ( only in the right color ) is the 599 GTB. But I would have to say I would still rather an LP640 to that car if only for its visual brutality and drama.

I in all humbleness notice you mention a 400k example of southern california only. Which would be a tall order for any part of the country unless you used MSRP of cars vs actually car value.

Post #225 Exotics in Redmond thread ""You completely understand the spirit of what we are trying to do but we don't yet know the mix of cars around here to set the line. As an example, if this was Orange County and we said Exotics and used a line of lets say, $400k, we'd fill the lot. Still up here it's different, we have no idea how many Ferrari, Lamborghini Porsche, or anything else are even up here and because we want to be more inclusive, we've kept it open until we saw who showed up. That's why AFTER the event I asked for follow-up suggestions. Instead I've got to wade through a minefield of posts from people who, have not offered to help, don't have their facts straight yet have lots of attitude. I think you are right, that possibly using European and pre 78 may be the way to go. We wanted to have this first turnout to just see who was interested and we found the level of an exotics-focused event to be much stronger than we thought. I'd like to get some more opinions before we make a decision, but I think it's the best one I've heard""(Quote Tommy James)

I wasn't the only one that took this the wrong way. This is where I got my info.

Again in my post I mentioned that it was all my opinion though others I know have the same opinion about Lambos and their driving characteristics. I'm not name bashing. I'd be the first to tell you I love a car. I'm all about cars.

Heck my mom hates cars. Everything about them but about 8-10 years ago at their place in La Quinta we saw a Diablo and she's like Holy Crap. That's the best looking sportscar I've ever seen. She even said she'd drive it. Blew me away. I kicked her out of the Will for that but gotta love it. So my whole family doesn't dislike the breed.

I fault no one for buying a car the way you did. You did the research and bought your car based on your driving needs with good advice from other drivers. You went to the factory and watched it happen. I applaud that. You actually love this car I believe.

I'm just throwing my 2 cents into his decision. It's informed. I'm not one to read about something and spew. I hate that more than most. Like I told you guys. I don't have a clue what these cars run side by side in a sprint and never will care. I'm all about the road and it's ability. The Nurburgring is my only true mechanism for judging these cars. I have to go off published stats here. I've never been. Do I want to go? Yep. Do I have the time? Nope.

As far as the drive. You can tell me Tommy. Just between us. You're just trying to drive my Mini aren't you. Straight swap for the weekend. I'll keep it quiet. I promise. No one will know. I'm always up to try out new things. I'm sure your car is a huge leap above the Murci's I've driven. I do like the Roadster and believe me I've looked more than once at Roy's white one. But heck I think almost every car looks good in White.

I'm not hugging anyone my girlfriend would get jealous but I'll most likely show up one day and buy all that coffee I told you many posts ago I owe for all of those that I've offended.

Vasily, don't tell me you are still harboring communist sentiments from the old country.

H20: your girlfriend knows that you've done more than hug a grown man while you were locked up so I'm sure she won't care.
