Question "warning battery generator" indicator

Could the warning light be for either a) alternator problem or b) low charge battery?

my battery was charging so borrowed one from a c2. pulled the fuse to crank w/o iginition to prime turbos and found that this battery was weak.

it still starts the car and it idles fine. haven't driven it. after idling a while, the "warning battery generator" (in red with a battery icon) comes on. restarting the car is no problem.

Below thread shows a broken drive belt.

But this was just changed on my car.

thanks

Start the car and put a volt meter on the battery. If it reads 13.5 volts or greater the alternator is fine.

Remember Mad Ness in many cases only the voltage regulator and diodes inside the alternator were replaced. Not the complete unit. see link: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...000-euros.html

changed the battery and same issue so either the alternator or the regulator are dead. FYI found a post says the regulator is part of the housing so labor for the part is probably similar.

funny this should happen same time engine came out. Wondering if 6 weeks with out starting the car may have been a catalyst?

I've seen this right after washing the car, and the belt slips ... likely not your issue, but for others just in case.

Alternator seems to be a pretty common thing to die on these cars... Mine went at 40k...

i washed washed around the pentosin reservoir because of spills a day prior, may be it was still wet. swapped out with spare, working fine now. is there anyway to check an alternator once off the car?

anothervr6kid is infamous around these parts
Take it into an auto store, they usually check them for free... if it was still in the car you can disconnect the batter and if it still runs the alternator is good, if it dies, the alternator is bad.
