I got 'em and they are great! As you know, rims are rotational mass.
Makes a difference, especially when you go rwd. That's over 100lb total
unsprung.

Rear upper seat removal

I knew at some point I was going to remove my upper rear seat. Well, today turned out to be that day. I was back there fooling around with my ECU anyway, so why not?

First, the good news. This is an easy mod. The hardest part by far is just figuring out how the plastic covers work that cover the bolts, but once you get them pried/popped off, you're basically home free. I was able to use allen wrenches for both sets of bolts, center and sides, although the side bolts appear intimidating and not set for the allen bolt pattern. Maybe mine had been loosened before or something, but I got even the side ones off with no problem.

So, I tried to get good scale measurements for you guys (as always) but was limited to my analog scale today as I was battery challenged for my 2 digital scales. Sorry about that.

The rear upper seat assembly (both halves), and all associated bolts and plastic pieces you see came to approximately 16 pounds. I weighed myself with the parts, then myself without to ensure the scale was at it's most accurate, rather than just weighing lightweight parts on it.

So, definitely a nice solid weight reduction achieved in the rear section of the car. This stuff really adds up if you're thorough and methodical.

Now, the bad news. The seatbelt receptacles and seatbelt assemblies look to be WAY more trouble than they are worth. I did fool around with them for a bit, but opted out pretty quickly when I saw what I was up against. You're going to be pulling out some much more involved panels to access them fully from what I could tell. It might be worth it, but that's a project for another day.

So, full upper seat assembly with all hardware pictured: 16 pounds (analog).

Best wishes all.

Tim,

I did indeed pull them off but they don't weigh anything and draw attention to other unfinished bolts. So, just left them in for now. If they weighed anything tangible they'd be gone, but I guess I prefer the semi-finished look since they're basically free weight. Thanks for the tip though, since I would have felt a bit silly to not know that and miss the opportunity to remove them!

no pics sorry. 2 screws hold the bose unit in place. just lifted it up a bit and slid the end of the seatbelt in there to the clasp and set the unit down.
do a search on rear seat delete. theres a thread with some easy ways to help hide the bolt holes and such without using the gt2 delete kit
