Has anybody had their dealership install and activiate this?

If so, how many labor units/hours did they charge?

Not sure if I'm allowed to post this in here but it is relevant to this discussion.

I actually have a brand new PDK black MF wheel for sale in the MM for less than the price of the upgrade kit!

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...k-leather.html

Since the center can be removed, the wheel can just be kept as a spare.

If this interests anyone, please get in touch via PM.

So that this doesn't just seem like a shameless plug (which it isn't), the dealer usually charges 1-2hrs labor for this install. It's pretty quick, expect to pay $150ish

So would you think 2 hours for $250.00 high average or excessive?

I know my dealer charges $130 an hour so to me that sounds about right, since they do tend to round up the hours. I'd see if you could push for 1 hour if possible though, every little counts

I just went the other way - had dealer remove MF and replace with XPA wheel and round airbag - 0.6 hours...so 2 hours may be a little on the high side but it may take more time to connect MF features than it takes to disconnect. My dealer's hourly rate is $135 before PCA 10% discount.

I'm in the middle of doing this myself.. it's probably going to take a total of 1hr, because I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm spending more time trying to figure out to get the damn bottom spoke plastic piece off to swap to the new wheel than actually swapping the wheel out. I could probably do this in about 15mins the 2nd time around.

So.. how do I get that darn bottom plastic "aluminum" piece off... there's no screw and I don't want to break it off.

Ok, after just prying and pulling, I got that bottom plastic piece off. Looks like Porsche really just glued it on there good.

Total install time was just over an hour... but I wasted more time with the setup/clean up (and that bottom plastic piece) than actually doing anything. It's simple. Any dealership that charges 2hrs install time is IMO overcharging by about 1 1/2 hours.... but then again, that's pretty normal.

Here are my iphone pics for reference... might help someone out in the future. Big thanks to MACarbon... what an awesome wheel!!!!

The start..

Pulling off the airbag... a small allen wrench works great... pops right out.

Yes, a T-55 will do it...

Off..

On..(airbag pops back into place...)

Inside...

Outside...

Awesome easy upgrade... extra thickness/grip. Looks great!

just got your message. indeed, prying the plastic aluminum looking pieces off is tricky and you need to be careful not to crack the plastic pillars. wheel looks great. make sure you have the wheel aligned to be straight on the highway. took me two shots to get that correct.

It's Nordic Gold Metallic... one of those optional colors Porsche did for a few years. A personal favorite of mine.

I had to pry that bottom "aluminum" trim piece off with a screw driver... it definitely wasn't pretty. Porsche uses some high grade adhesive.... you just have to keep at it and be careful not to break any of the tabs.

I love the new wheel... MACarbon does some amazing work, and it really matches the car nicely. I'll definitely being doing some more things with them in the future.

BTW- That T-55 can be bought at any auto parts store, etc... I think it was $5... another tool for the ol tool box.

These two posts, along with a bunch of the others, were very helpful this morning when I changed my wheel. I almost gave up, but looked these up (I'd seen them months ago) and they gave me the confidence to use more muscle. If it wasn't for these posts, I'd have gone to the dealer.

I replaced my stock .1S wheel with an XPA wheel that I bought used. Extremely happy, but I've only been around the block to reset the codes. I'm looking fwd to enjoying this upgrade on every drive. [I had upgraded my wheel on my old 964 and drove it for 7+ more years afterward. What a great upgrade!]

Just to be sure.

So my car doesn't have a multi-function steering wheel. However if I buy a wheel that has the multi-function with the airbag included, I can just plug-in-play? As long as I go to the dealership to get it programmed to my audio system?
