Have a problem, advice please...

Hey guys. Having an issue with my '12 CTT.

I switched from my 20 inch winter tires to 21 inch summers back in May. Since then, I have had vibration in steering wheel and in car from about 75 mph on. At first, thought it was new wheels. Had them balanced again, then rebalanced. Balanced a third time. No dice. Thought, ok, maybe wheels are problem. Put OEM Turbo IIs back on, and while better overall, still there.

Thought, okay, maybe an alignment issue. Took car to MAG up in Dublin last week, had service and recalls done. Alignment checked and redone. While better, still present. Seems to be more prominent if I don't drive her a couple days, but is almost always there.

The dealer had said the car was out of alignment. Had some problems with camber, I believe in right rear, but got it extremely close to goal.

Any ideas? Anyone else experience anything close to this?

No help here, haven't experienced the same issue.
I have a small, grinding, roughness when starting from cold in the morning when making the first left hand turn from stop as very slow speed up until about 2 mph.
Then goes away and not again the rest of the day.
Hmmm

I have not had either problem
I recently went from the factory 20"Spyders to 22"one piece forged RG5Bs and had been concerned about how drivability would be affected...
It has worked out very well so far and I have had it up to about 175
There is definitely more feedback in steering wheel and the ride is firmer, but its a small price to pay for added precision and stability
I will pay attention to that first left turn next time I leave my driveway
Good luck getting your problem fixed and keep us updated

Most vibration is due to balancing. But there is a little vibration if you are in 8th gear too, just due to the gearing of the tranny and the RPMs being very low in the 70s.

Check the wheel balancing again........Same problem in the E92......when I looked closely vertical balancing was out of whack on one of the four rims.

Cheers,

Will do.

I agree with the current recommendations. I am going to a real reputable place on Friday. Will have them road forced.

There is a possibility that the wheels themselves are out of round. I have had this on more than one brand new sets of wheels. Not much can be done about it, if indeed this is the problem.

TighTT, you may be right here.

I realized I left off a crucial piece of info. I took the tires off the new 21 inch rims and mounted them to my OEM Turbo II wheels, as the yokohamas it came with were worn. So, I have had the same set of tires on both vehicles.

Interestingly enough, drove the CTT two days in a row. Today, almost zero vibration. Felt like it should feel. Had the car up to 98 at one point, and no problem.

Interesting...

If thats the case, throw my previous statement out the window.

Does it only happen on certain roads??

No. Not really.

I have been worried about the tires not being in round.

Will see. Overall, with consecutive days driving, improved.

Hi Jason. Responding from Zanesville. Getting ready to move from Danville, Va. Anyways, same thing happened. Several re-balancing and alignment did not fix it. It turns out that because I store my contis over the winter, some tires which were on the rear developed hard spots. I had them installed to the front to even out the wear. Road forcing diagnosed the hard spots. Problem solved when the tires which were on the front before winter were installed to the front. The service manager theorized that when summer heats up, the hard spots may soften and I can try moving them to the front. I am not doing that anymore. I am waiting for the final wear and tear and installing Vredesteins.
