996 Turbo or GTR?
Woe cowboy, No need to get all argumentative. You kinda set yourself up for this kind of response from people here... You want to get this thread locked? All it takes it someone reporting it... If you came here to start a bunch of garbage, and I am suspecting that is the case, then you'll get shut down in short order. If not, then lets discuss it.
I recognize the merits of the car and the platform. I also recognize the fact that the 996TT is an older platform. However, not everyone needs the technology that this car (the GTr) delivers. The disconnection from driver to experience of driving has been WELL documented by those who have tested, reported, and owned this car.
It does many things well. It also is a hell of a lot easier to drive, in the hands of a So so amature. So let's not go crazy thinking it's the next coming of a supercar. It has its own well documented issues...
And for the record, I'm Mike Kelly. Don't want you to accuse me of "hiding"...

This debate will never end. I guess its a matter of personal preference at this point , there is so much data about both cars.
All i can say is the fact that we are comparing a decade old car (996tt) to the best and latest from Japan...tells us something about 996tt. It does not get old!

Prche - not worth the time...your lack of knowledge and cluelessness is shining through in your attempt to put me down...I will not be responding to your posts anymore as they are simply fraught with mistakes, sarcastic BS and other inconsistencies. I wish you the best in life, good luck!
. I always respect other peoples wares, I never insult what they own, UNTIL they come and try to put my wares down to make themselves feel good. which is what you are doing, and is typical of GTR owners. Actually quite typical indeed. The only reason you won't respond to me is because you can't. Go to the GTR forum and hang out there, lets see how much fun that is. A bunch of 60 year old guys talking about their GTR's sitting in the garage along with 18 year old kids talking about how their PS3 GTR smoked a veyron and possibly one or two serious owners like yourself. oh and so you know what you are talking about here are three interiors:
As you can see, the GTR has nothing on the Turbos. Both the 996tt and the 997tt have nicer interiors than a GTR. The GTR looks like a Ford Nissan mix interior. I am pretty sure those vents came off my F150.

No doubt about it, Nissan did a great job with the performance of the GTR, however, they really ought to be congratulated for the marketing coup of the century...which was to convince some people to pay THAT much for it.
As a kid, I was always told never to compare myself to other people..you will either become envious or arrogant. Just be the best that you can.
Well, one can hardly blame some GTR owners for falling into that trap , when the latest GTR's existence is based on Nissan's benchmarking of the 996tt.
The GTR is no Porsche. Performance comparisons aside, you only need to go into a NISSAN dealership to work that out.
By the way, where I live, you couldn't buy even one used 996tt for what you pay for a new GTR in the US...and that's the way it should be.

With all due respect the interior in the GTR is just downright awful-think Sentra! The car looks a lot like the new G37. I don't know if the GTR is much better than the 996TT? I had a chance to run one (GTR) in the canyons and highway, the owner was not happy at all after. Enjoy your GTR they are both great cars!
Plain and simple, get what you like. If you like plastic and electronic gidgets get the GTR. If you like quality and leather, get the 996tt. If you want the solid feel that never gets old, and quality of build that stays together for well over a decade, porsche is the only way to go.
there is only one japanese supercar and that is the NSX. It is the only car that can be compared to a porsche or a ferrari in quality. No other japanese sports car even comes close.
just don't come into the porsche forum to insult porsche owners. Stay in your own forum if you feel the need to slam other cars to make yourself feel good

My Lord Peter you sure know how to stir up the forum. I must admit the GTR has grown on me since it's intro. but I still have to agree with the majority here about your comparison,I will always think 996TT/997TT > GTR. Before this turns into a verbal monstrosity I think we should leave it at buy what you like. Please Peter try not to go to the Lambo forum & compare the GTR to a TT Lambo.
I should have known better than to go against the grain and challenge anyone on a p-car forum in the 996 section. At the end of the day, the GTR is faster, brakes better, is quicker, can lap a track faster, is more technologically advanced, has a better interior, better ergonomics, etc...than a 996TT. If you all feel that the 996TT is still a better car, then no problem! Again, I should have known that would be your response... I will now learn from my mistake and make sure I never post in a 996TT vs. GTR thread again. Carry on now boys and enjoy...
Peter <--- ducking for cover and running!!!!!! (atleast my GTR can get away from your 996TT)
OK cheap shot...
I'm done...
p.s. thanks to the guy that has actually owned BOTH and has said that he went from the 996TT to the GTR and has never looked back...I wonder why no one caught on to that post!
